About Us
The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare is the largest dedicated Rotorcraft Collection in the world, with over 80 helicopters on display! Favourites include two of the Queen’s Royal Flight helicopters, the world speed record holder G-Lynx (400 km per hour!), the Vietnam Veteran Huey and the Hind Russian Gun Ship.
Inside visitors will find the ‘Weston Aviation Exhibition’ telling the story of Weston-super-Mare’s famous aviation past. Outside visitors will be wowed by the 30 foot ‘Bristol Bloodhound’ Missile, the rockets of which were made just down the road in Banwell shortly after WW2.
More than Helicopters!
You don’t have to be an aviation buff to enjoy the museum and there’s plenty for kids to do. As well as all the helicopters there’s an interactive zone to explore, film theatre and a ‘Play Copter’ outside for kids! Regular open cockpit days give you a chance to climb aboard, have the controls explained to you by an expert and pose for a photo!
Helicopter Flights!
Aircraft frequently visit the museum’s helipad for visitors to see. Military helicopters such as Chinooks and Wildcats will often be spotted flying over Weston on their way to the museum and the helipad is also used to take visitors to the skies with air experience flights! Visit www.helicoptermuseum.co.uk/flights to find out when the next flight date will be.
Events
The museum is one of Weston’s most popular venues with major events including, The World at War Weekend (8 - 9 April), The Sealed Knot’s Fire Power Weekend (29 April-1 May) and Crosville’s Annual Bus & Steam Rally (10 September). There are also some fantastic ‘Family Fun Days’ throughout the year with Santa even flying in by helicopter to meet excited children at Christmas!
